When you begin methadone treatment, medication is only part of the journey. Counseling offers the guidance, tools, and encouragement to make recovery stronger and more sustainable. At Revive Treatment Centers, we combine individual and group therapy with methadone care so that every patient has both medical support and a safe place to heal.
Revive Treatment centers are:
Certified by SAMHSA
Licensed by the State and DEA
Accredited by a SAMHSA-approved OTP agency
Is Counseling Necessary in Methadone Treatment?
Yes. Counseling is necessary for everyone in a methadone program as a core part of treatment. Individual and group therapy give patients the skills and support that medication alone cannot provide. Counseling creates the space to:
Â
Ease withdrawal symptoms
Reduce overwhelming cravings
Help you feel steady, physically and mentally
Prevent relapse and support long-term recovery
Â
This combination of medication and therapy is known as methadone maintenance counseling or methadone treatment counseling. Together, they provide a balanced path to recovery.

Individual and Group Counseling in a Methadone Clinic
Every person’s recovery story is different. That’s why we offer two forms of counseling to support you throughout treatment.

Individual Therapy
In private, one-on-one sessions, you’ll meet with a counselor who listens without judgment and helps you create a plan based on your goals. These sessions are designed to give you space to process your experiences and receive personal guidance.

Group Therapy
Each week, patients have the option to participate in group counseling. Groups are small, with no more than ten people, so that everyone has a chance to speak and connect. Guided by a trained counselor, groups provide a sense of community and shared accountability that can be just as powerful as medication in keeping recovery on track.
What Counseling Techniques Are Part of Methadone Programs?
Counseling in a methadone program isn’t one-size-fits-all. Different approaches are combined to meet your needs and give you practical tools for recovery. At Revive Treatment Centers, our counselors use evidence-based methods such as:
Â
Relapse prevention planning: gives you tools to spot triggers early and avoid setbacks.
Motivational interviewing: helps you find your own reasons for recovery and strengthen your drive to stay on track.
Mindfulness and meditation: teaches ways to calm your mind and manage stress in the moment.
Abstinence skills-building: strengthens your ability to say no in real-world situations.
Trauma-informed care: makes sure your past experiences are respected and handled without judgment.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): shows how to recognize thought patterns that fuel relapse and replace them with healthier ones.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): builds skills for handling strong emotions and improving relationships.
Psycho-educational materials: clear resources that explain addiction, treatment, and recovery step by step.
Disease transmission awareness: provides education to protect your health and lower risks.
Â
Each patient’s plan may look different, but the goal is always the same: to give you the knowledge, skills, and support to maintain stability and build a healthier future.
